Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, was commissioned to design an identity and marketing package for a reclaimed-wood company. Most of the wood comes from old barns, or is pulled out from riverbeds that were once used to float logs to wood mills. The resulting product is very refined, old-growth wood that has been preserved by cold river water. Dan was inspired by turn-of-the-century art and craftsmanship for Restoration Timber. The Shaker movement also inspired the art and design of the brand—a metaphor for seasoned, high-quality wood.
Business 2.0
Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, was contracted to design and manage graphic production of the original Business 2.0 Web site, owned by Imagine Media. Alongside the website design was the daily management of illustrations and images needed for content updates. When AOL/Time-Warner bought the magazine Dan and his agency were retained to redesign the whole website brand from the ground up.
Wells Fargo Historical Services
Wells Fargo Bank has a 150-year history in California, having played a major role in the state’s early development. The company’s archives are overflowing with artifacts from California’s past.
History was a powerful metaphor for promoting the bank’s brand as timeless and trustworthy. Dan worked with Historical Services to produce many print-based materials that drew on Wells Fargo’s historical relevance.
Wells Fargo ATM Awareness Project
Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, was contracted to help Wells Fargo Bank find ways to tap banking’s hidden audience, though their ATM customers.
The ATM awareness project was commissioned by the Wells Fargo Cross Channel Distribution and Marketing Group. Dan and Sp3d developed engaging hypothetical advertising to get the attention of its ATM customers, who were tuning-out the seven-second “Please Wait” screen—valuable cross-channel messaging real estate.
12 animated ad treatments were created for testing. This work was vastly different from any previous ATM ads at Wells Fargo. From the study, Wells Fargo learned more about what people notice during ATM transactions and provided Wells Fargo with a direction for developing future ATM advertising.
Seybold Seminars Online
Seybold Seminars was a leading seminar and the premier trade show for the desktop publishing and pre-press industry.
During Dan’s tenure as Creative Director at Softbank Expos, he was responsible for the creative direction and execution of Seybold Expo’s online properties.
When Ants Invade PSA
Dan and his San Francisco-based boutique agency, Sp3d, was commissioned to conceive, design, and produce a 30-second television spot for “When Ants Invade” which alerted people to the dangers of home pesticide use. Pesticides kill bugs—and everything else! The PSA and billboard campaign was commissioned by the Bay Area Stormwater Management Agencies Association (BASMAA). Concepts that promoted responsible insecticide use were presented on storyboards. Sp3d created the TV ad by blending photo compositing and 3D animation—and won a Telly Award!
